How to Set the Garage Door Opener on Chevy Carsby Leonardo R. Grabkowski
Many Chevrolet cars, as well as other GM vehicles, are equipped with a universal remote system. The system can be recognized by the three buttons surrounded by a garage icon. The company that makes the Chevy remote system is Car2U. You can program the system to your garage door or to a security gate.
Make sure your garage door is a programmable unit. Most garage doors built after 1996 will be compatible with the Chevy universal remote system.
Turn your ignition to the "On" position. Press and hold the two outside buttons on your universal remote system (usually located on the sun visor or above the rear-view mirror) for two seconds, and then release them.
Have your assistant press the "Learn," "Program" or "Smart" button on your garage door opener motor unit.
Press and hold the button on your universal remote system that you want to program to your garage door. Hold the button for 20 seconds.
Release the button as soon as the garage door moves (within one second). Press the button again to finish the programming. Test your button to make sure the system works.
- Chevrolet has a telephone assistance system set up specifically for the universal remote system. If you have questions or concerns, you can reach the department at 1-866-572-2728.
