How to Reset a Car Alarm & Disable Without Remote
by Matthew FortunaCar alarms are common features on many types of cars. These alarms, which are controlled with wireless remotes, allow you to enjoy a sense of security with your vehicle. However, if your remote stops working, you can reset and disable the alarm in just minutes from the inside of your car.
Resetting the Alarm
Step 1
Close all of your car doors.
Step 2
Insert one key in the door lock and cycle it to the "Lock" position, and then back to the "Unlock" position two times. Leave the key in the lock cylinder.
Step 3
Enter your car and insert your key into the ignition cylinder.
Step 4
Cycle the key in the ignition from the "Off" position to the "On" position twice in a row. The alarm will emit a chirping sound after turning the ignition to the "On" position the second time. This will reset the alarm, making it ready for reprogramming (if necessary).
Disabling the Alarm Without a Remote
Step 1
Insert your key into the car's ignition and turn the key to the "ACC" position.
Step 2
Locate the transmitter system for your alarm. This is usually installed underneath the driver's side dash near the ignition cylinder or under the hood near the windshield.
Step 3
Repeatedly press and release the toggle switch on the system. Do this until the system chirps and the LED light turns off. This will indicate that the system is disabled and ready to be recoded (if necessary).
