How to Turn on the Headlights on a Ford Focus
by Dave Baker NYCVarious design features on the Ford Focus have been updated and restyled by the manufacturer since the car's introduction in the 2000 model year, including the instrument panel and gauges. But the process for turning on the headlights in a Focus has remained much the same. In a nutshell, you turn a knob. Where the headlight operation might get complicated, though, is switching between the low beams and high beams. Ford revamped this procedure beginning with 2008 Focus models.
Step 1
Sit in the driver's seat and locate the headlight control knob on the left side of the steering wheel. If you think of the steering wheel as a clock, you'll find the headlight knob near the 8 o'clock position of the steering wheel. The knob is affixed to the dash of the car.
Step 2
Turn the headlight control knob clockwise two positions to turn on the headlights.
Step 3
Push the left-side lever on the steering wheel away from you and toward the dashboard to change the headlights from low beams to high beams on newer Focus models. However, on older Focuses (2000 to 2007 models), pull the left-side lever toward you to activate the high beams and pull it toward you again to switch back to low beams.
Step 4
Turn off the headlights by returning the headlight control knob two positions counterclockwise.
