How to Remove the Rear Seat From a 1996 Altimaby Leonardo R. Grabkowski
The 1996 Nissan Altima's rear seat is similar to many others. It is a two-piece unit composed of the seatback and the seat cushion. The 1996 Altima has a rear flip-down armrest in the center. Since the armrest is attached to the seat mount and not to the seatback itself, you have to remove the armrest before you can remove the seat. Have someone help you if you have trouble lifting the seat out of the car.
Examine the front edge of the rear seat bottom to find two bolts. These bolts hold the front edge of the rear seat bottom in place. Remove the bolts with your socket wrench.
Push the front edge of the rear seat bottom toward the trunk area. While applying pressure, lift the seat bottom up. There are two hooks on the rear portion of the seat bottom. This unhooks them. Remove the rear seat cushion from the Altima.
Flip down the center armrest. Remove the two bolts from the armrest's hinge unit. Pull the armrest out of the hinge unit.
Remove the bolt from the bottom half of the hinge unit. Remove the hinge unit from the rear seat.
Remove the two seat bolts. There is one bolt on each side of the rear seatback, directly beneath the side bolsters. Push the seat up to unhook its clips, then lift it out of the Altima.
