How to Replace a Battery in a 2000 Pontiac Bonneville
by Tara KimballThe 2000 Pontiac Bonneville is equipped with a maintenance-free battery, which should require no attention at all unless you need to replace it. The battery is under the rear seat, so you can replace it without needing to access the engine compartment. Buy a replacement battery from an auto parts retailer and change it at home to have your Bonneville running its best in minutes.
Step 1
Open the rear door of the Bonneville. Grab the front of the seat cushion of the rear seat. Lift the front of the seat cushion up to free the cushion from the retaining hooks.
Step 2
Pull the cushion up and out of the rear seat area to expose the battery.
Step 3
Disconnect the negative battery cable using a wrench. Repeat the process on the positive battery cable.
Step 4
Remove the bolt from the retaining strap with a socket and ratchet. Lift the battery out of the tray. Insert the new battery and secure the retaining strap. Tighten the strap with a socket and ratchet.
Step 5
Connect the positive battery cable and tighten it with a wrench. Repeat the process on the negative battery cable.
Step 6
Thread the rear seat belts through the slots on the rear seat cushion. Insert the rear of the cushion under the seat back, hooking the loops into the metal guides in the seat. Push the front of the seat into place until it locks.
