How to Reset a BMW Key

BMW automobiles feature a keyless entry system that is built into the key and allows you to unlock and lock the doors and trunk with the press of a button. At times, the unlock and lock functionality on the key will stop working. When this happens, you need to reset your BMW key.
Step 1
Unlock your BMW using the metal key.
Step 2
Place the key in the ignition.
Step 3
Turn the key to the "On" position.
Step 4
Turn the key to the "Off" position.
Step 5
Remove the key from the ignition.
Step 6
Press and hold the "Unlock" button on your key.
Step 7
Press the "Lock" button on the key three times. Your key is now reset and should function properly.
