How to Program a Pontiac Ignition Key
by Matthew FortunaIgnition keys can be electronically programmed to your car's engine to start your car. These keys, also known as transponder and chip keys, are a popular security and convenience feature on many Pontiac vehicles. You can program your Pontiac key in just seconds from your driver's seat and have it ready to use right away. Once it's programmed, only a synced key can be used to start your car.
Step 1
Enter your car and insert your key into the ignition.
Step 2
Cycle the key in the ignition to the "On" position and leave it in that position for 10 minutes and 30 seconds.
Step 3
Cycle the key back "Off" within 45 seconds.
Step 4
Repeat Steps 2 and 3 two more times, and then cycle the key back to the "On" position.
Step 5
Hold the key in the "On" position for five seconds, and use the key to start the car to end the process.
