How to Fold the Rear Seat in a 2005 Pontiac Grand Am
by Leonardo R. GrabkowskiThe 2005 Pontiac Grand Am is equipped with a 60/40-split folding rear seat. This design allows you to fold the rear-seat down to increase the cargo capacity. This is necessary if you want to transport an item longer than your standard trunk capacity. By folding the rear seat down, part of the item can rest in the cabin. It only takes a few minutes to fold your Grand Am's rear seat.
Step 1
Open the back door. Remove any items on the rear-seat cushion. Items on the rear-seat cushion will prevent the rear-seat from fully folding.
Step 2
Press the trunk release button located on the driver-side door panel. Walk to the trunk. Lift the deck lid.
Step 3
Locate the straps toward the back of the trunk compartment. These are the rear-seat back straps. Pull each strap once to unlock the rear seat.
Step 4
Pull the top part of the seat back onto the seat cushion. It's easier to do this from inside the vehicle, instead of pushing it from the trunk. Move to the other side and repeat the process to fold down the other half of the seat.
