How to Put a Lexus GX470 into 4-Wheel Drive
by Nick MilesFirst released in 2003, the Lexus GX470 is a mid-size SUV from the Japanese luxury manufacturer. The vehicle features a 4.7-liter V-8 and four-wheel-drive drivetrain to compete with the BMW X5, Audi Q7 and Range Rover. The four-wheel-drive system features a control lever than can vary the car between neutral, normal and low drivetrain settings for maximum on-road and off-road driving efficiency.
Step 1
Place the vehicle in park, or put the gear into neutral.
Step 2
Move the four-wheel drive control lever, which is found to the right of the gear shift lever, into “H” for normal driving. This will deliver power to all four wheels at a high-speed setting, ideal for normal city and highway driving.
Step 3
Move the four-wheel drive control lever into “L” for off-road driving. This places the drivetrain into a low-speed setting, giving the vehicle maximum four-wheel drive traction for climbing and descending hills and driving on loose surfaces, such as dirt or mud.
