How to Open a Mini Cooper Sunroof

by Leonardo R. Grabkowski

Mini Cooper coupe models may come with a factory installed sunroof; some newer models have an advanced version of the sunroof, known as a "Dual Pane Panoramic Sunroof." The sunroof switch is located in a convenient spot, so opening the sunroof is a fairly straightforward process. However, you have to use the switch in the proper manner, or else the sunroof will vent open instead of sliding open.

Step 1

Take a seat in your Mini Cooper. Place the key in the ignition and start the engine.

Step 2

Locate the sunroof switch on the headliner. The switch is located between the two visors, right above your rear-view mirror.

Step 3

Grasp the switch firmly. Push the switch backward to begin opening the sunroof. Release the switch when the sunroof is fully open. If you only tilt the switch backward, rather than push it, the sunroof will tilt open (vent mode) rather than fully open.

Step 4

Grasp the switch firmly when you are ready to close the sunroof. Push the switch forward. Hold it in position until the sunroof fully closes.
