How to Program a Key Fob for a 2005 Malibu

When a key fob for your Malibu is not working correctly, reset or reprogram the device. This will allow the key fob to reconnect to the transmitter on the car so you will be able to lock and unlock the vehicle without having to use the key.
Step 1
Get in the vehicle and make sure all of the doors have been closed.
Step 2
Press and hold down the unlock switch on the driver's side door.
Step 3
Insert the key in the ignition. Turn the key to the "On" position and then "Off" position and then repeat. This will activate the key fob programming mode.
Step 4
Release the unlock switch on the door. They will lock and then unlock to enter the program mode for the key fob.
Step 5
Press the lock and unlock buttons on the key fob simultaneously for about 15 seconds. The doors will lock and then unlock when the key fob has been programmed. Repeat this process to program your remaining key fobs for the vehicle.
Step 6
Turn the key in the ignition to the "Run" position to exit the key fob programming mode.
Step 7
Press a button on the key fob to verify that it has been programmed correctly.
