How to Turn On the Passenger Air Bag in a Chevy Impala
by Kyle SanstromThe passenger air bag in a Chevy Impala is designed to reduce the severity of injuries in the event of a collision. Unlike the driver's side air bag, the passenger air bag can be turned on or off using the ignition key in special switch. The passenger air bag must be turned off in order to safely use certain child seats in the front passenger seat. When this air bag is turned off, a special indicator light near the switch will illuminate to alert the driver that it is disabled.
Step 1
Turn off the engine and place the vehicle in park. Remove the key from the ignition.
Step 2
Insert the key in the passenger air bag switch located to the right of the car stereo.
Step 3
Turn the key to the "OFF" position.
Step 4
Check to make sure that the air bag deactivation light is on.
Step 5
Remove the key from the switch.
