How to Set the Clock on Chevrolet Carsby Contributing Writer; Updated June 12, 2017
At first, having the incorrect time displayed on your Chevrolet car stereo unit is annoying. After a while, it becomes more than annoying, especially if you can't figure out how to set the correct time. Fortunately, many Chevrolet car came equipped with a radio data system (RDS), which enables you to tune to an FM frequency to set the digital clock on the stereo unit to the correct time. And if your Chevrolet car doesn't have an RDS, setting the clock is simply a matter of pressing the right buttons.

Setting the Clock on a Standard Radio
With the ignition on or off, press and hold the "HR" or "MIN" arrow on the bottom, right of the radio for two seconds to enter the set mode. Press and release the "HR" arrow until the correct hour displays on the screen, then press and release the "MIN" arrow until the correct minute displays on the screen.
Setting the Clock With Radio Data System
With the ignition on or off, press and hold the "HR" or "MN" button just under the tuner knob on the radio for two seconds until a clock emblem shows on the tuner display. Hold the "HR" button until the hour that you desire shows on the screen -- a.m. and p.m. will cycle automatically each time the clock reaches 12:00 -- then hold down the "MN" button until the minute that you desire shows on the screen.
Setting the Clock to an FM Station's Time
Tune to a station that broadcasts Radio Data System, then press and hold the "HR" and "MN" buttons until "UPDATED" appears on the screen. If the station is not broadcasting the time, "NO UPDAT" will show on the screen and you will need to tune to another station to obtain the time.
Set the Clock on the Basic AM/FM Radio
Turn your 2000 Malibu's ignition on or crank the car's engine. Push the "Set" button on the right side of the car's radio.
Press and hold the "Right Seek" arrow within five seconds to begin adjusting the "Minute." When the minute figure is properly adjusted, release the arrow.
Press and hold the "Left Seek" arrow to adjust the hour. When the hour figure is properly adjusted, release the arrow. The Malibu's clock is now set. Turn the ignition off to exit the clock set mode.
Set the Clock on the CD or Cassette Player
Locate the "HR" and "MN" buttons on the right side of the radio. The buttons are beneath "Auto Tone."
Turn the Malibu's ignition to "On." Push and hold "HR" to adjust the hour. Release "HR" when the hour is properly adjusted.
Push and hold the "MN" button to adjust the minute. Release "MN" when the minute display is properly adjusted.
1998 Chevrolet Radios Without Automatic Tone Control
Press the "Set" button located on the right side of the Chevy's radio.
Press and hold the "Seek Right" button to advance the minute. When the right minute shows on the clock, let go of the button.
Press and hold the "Seek Left" button to set the hour. Release the button when the right hour shows.
1998 Chevrolet Radios With Automatic Tone Control
Locate the HR and MN buttons on the right side of the radio.
Press and hold "HR." Release HR when the Chevy's radio shows the correct hour.
Press and hold "MN" until the radio shows the correct minute, then release it.
Turn your ignition key to the "Acc" or "On" position, but do not crank the engine.
Hold the minute arrow (MIN) for two seconds to enter programming mode. Press the hour arrow (HR) until the correct hour is displayed.
Press the minute arrow (MIN) until the correct minute is displayed. Wait until the display returns to normal, then turn off the ignition.
Turn on the ignition, and turn off the radio.
Locate the "Set" button below the clock. Push and hold it for 3 to 5 seconds, until the numbers on the clock flash.
Push the "Scan" button up or down until the number flashes for the correct hour. Push the "Seek" button up or down to set the minutes in the same way.
Press the "Set" button again to save your changes.
Turn off the radio. Press and hold the "Set" button until the clock set function appears on the digital display.
Press the first radio preset button to select the hours place. Use the "Scan" and "Search" buttons to adjust the hour to the correct time.
Press the second radio preset button to set the minutes. Adjust the minutes to the correct time using the "Scan" and "Search" buttons.
Press the "Set" button to save your changes.
Trucks With RDS
Look for a pair of buttons labeled "HR" (hour) and "MIN" (minute). They are usually located in the lower right corner of the stereo unit.
Press the two buttons at the same time until you see "RDS TIME" on the radio screen.
Hold the buttons down again for two seconds to accept the RDS time. If the time isn't available, you'll see a "NO UPDAT" message on the screen.
Wait for the correct time to appear. In some cases, it will take several minutes for the system to set the correct the time.
Trucks Without RDS
Press and hold the "HR" button on the lower right side of the radio panel until the hour digits show the correct hour.
Press and hold the "MIN" button next to the "HR" button until the minute digits show the correct minutes.
Turn your engine off. Press "RCL" and either "HR" or "MIN" to view the time without a key in the ignition.
