Some vehicles, such as the Ford Focus, have auto locks that can easily be enabled or disabled. The auto lock function is convenient if you want to ensure that your car doors lock automatically once you've exited the vehicle. However, it can be a nuisance if you're storing a lot of boxes in your car trunk and you constantly have to lock and unlock the doors in a short period of time. Disabling and enabling the locks only takes up five minutes of your time and it is very easy to do.

Step 1

Close all of the doors of your vehicle and make sure the perimeter alarm is disabled if you have one. You can do this by clicking "Disable" or "Unlock" on your remote control if you have one.

Step 2

Insert the key into the ignition switch and leave it in the "Off" position.

Step 3

Turn the key to "Run" and press the power door lock "Unlock" button three times.

Step 4

Turn the key in the ignition from "Run" to "Off."

Step 5

Press the "Unlock" button on the power door lock three times.

Step 6

Turn the ignition switch from "Off" to "Run." All of these steps must be performed within 30 seconds of first putting the key into the ignition switch.

Step 7

Wait for the horn to chirp. This will indicate the automatic locks have been disabled.

Step 8

Press "Unlock" on the power door button one time to toggle the autolock/relock feature to "On" or "Off."

Step 9

Press the "Lock" button on the power door and wait for the horn to chirp.

Step 10

Turn the ignition switch to "Off" to exit the enable/disable mode. The horn will chirp once more to confirm changes.
