How to Reset a Mercedes Key
by Tiffany RaifordMercedes-Benz is an auto manufacturer of high-end luxury vehicles. Mercedes-Benz owners each have car keys with fobs attached that allow them the luxury of not needing to fumble for the door lock each time they want to lock or unlock doors. Imagine attempting to find the door lock on your Mercedes on a dark, rainy night with your arms full of groceries. That key fob's lock and unlock button is beneficial to have in such situations. If you obtain a new key for your Mercedes, the key will need to be programmed, or reset, to work with your particular vehicle.
Step 1
Reset your Mercedes-Benz key by placing the key in the ignition of your vehicle while the vehicle is turned off. Do not turn on the vehicle. Press a finger on the "lock" button of your key fob while the key is in the Mercedes' ignition.
Step 2
Pull the key out of the ignition while continuing to hold the "lock" button down. Continue to hold the "lock" button for the duration of the key resetting process.
Step 3
Use another finger to push down on the "unlock" button five consecutive times. Keep holding down the "lock" button.
Step 4
Release the "lock" button. This is the end of the resetting process for your Mercedes-Benz. Use your key fob to ensure it is properly working.
