The Cadillac Escalade SUV manufactured by General Motors features an optional device called the Universal Home Remote System, which allows you to set devices like a garage door opener to be controlled from the universal remote built into the vehicle. If you want to program a garage door opener to your Cadillac Escalade, you need access to the vehicle and the garage door opening device at the same time. You may need someone else to help you with the programming procedure.

Step 1

Park the Cadillac Escalade outside of the garage that contains the door opener that you are attempting to program. Open the garage door before you start the procedure. You may need to move between the opener and the car or communicate with the person helping you program the device.

Step 2

Using a ladder to access the garage door opener, locate the "Learn" or "Smart" button located near the antenna wire. Do not press the button yet. You will need to know the button's location to perform the programming of the Universal Home Remote.

Step 3

Press and hold the buttons on the right and left of the Universal Home Remote System (the two outer buttons) on the interior of the Cadillac Escalade. Hold these buttons for two seconds before letting go.

Step 4

Activate the "Learn" or "Smart" button on the garage door opener to begin the programming process. You will have only 30 seconds to start the next step. If you are completing the job alone, carefully climb down the ladder and enter the Cadillac Escalade. If you are working with a partner, signal him that you have completed this step.

Step 5

Push down the button that you want to be connected to the garage door on the Universal Home Remote inside of the Cadillac Escalade. Hold it down until the garage door opener begins to operate. Immediately release the button. If the procedure is completed correctly, the light-emitting diode (LED) above the button you programmed will blink repeatedly.

Step 6

The light will blink for several seconds while syncing with the garage door opener. When this process ends, the light will go off. Push the freshly programmed button to test the garage door. If the door goes up and down with a push, the process is complete.
