The 2001 Mitsubishi Mirage comes stock with either a 1.5L four-cylinder engine code A or a 1.8L four-cylinder engine code C. You can find the engine code by locating the eighth digit of the vehicle identification number. The VIN is stamped on the dash visible through the lower, driver's side corner of the front windshield.

Oil Weight and Amounts

Both engine types use [SAE 5w30](https://itstillruns.com/sae-5w30-7511956.html) oil with factory recommendations of using synthetic oils. The 1.5L engine holds 3.5 quarts while the 1.8L holds 4.1 quarts.

Torque and Filter

Torque both vehicles' drain plugs to 26 to 32 foot pounds of torque and use a MANN 7500 Mile Oil Filter (ML1008) or other manufacturer's equivalent oil filter.

Additional Recommendations

As the vehicle is likely to have over 50,000 miles on the engine, use a high-mileage or synthetic oil when changing the oil. Oil additives for higher mileage engines and high-mileage or synthetic oils are helpful in maintaining the seals inside your engine.
