Chevy Malibu Keyless Entry Programming Instructions
by Abby VaunKeyless remote entry allows car owners to unlock and lock doors from a distance. If you own a 2000 or earlier Chevy Malibu, you can program the keyless remote yourself. For 2001 and newer models, you have to go to the dealership to have the remotes programmed.
Step 1
Get in the driver's seat and close the door. All the doors must be completely closed to program the remote.
Step 2
Insert the key into the ignition and turn it to the "On" position and then to the "Off" position. Do not turn on the engine.
Step 3
Take the key out of the ignition.
Step 4
Push and hold the driver's side lock/unlock button in the "Unlock" position. You will be holding the button until step 7.
Step 5
Put the key in the ignition and remove two times without turning the key.
Step 6
Reinsert the key into the ignition and leave it.
Step 7
Release the "Unlock" button. There will be three beeps to let you know you've entered the "program mode."
Step 8
Push the "Lock" and "Unlock" buttons on the remote at the same time. Hold the two buttons until the car beeps twice.
Step 9
Repeat step 8 with each remote you need to program. You can do this for up to four remotes.
