How to Set Up a Key FOB for a Crown Victoria

A keyless entry remote or key fob allows you to lock and unlock the doors of your Ford Crown Victoria from a distance. Although the benefits of keyless entry remotes are numerous, they are small and can sometimes be accidentally lost or broken. If that happens, obtain a new key fob from the manufacturer or from many online retailers. Once you receive your key fob, you must program the frequency of the key fob so that it will work with your Crown Victoria. Setting up a key fob for a Crown Victoria only takes a few minutes.

Step 1

Sit in the Crown Victoria driver's seat and insert the key in the ignition. Shut the driver's side door.

Step 2

Switch the ignition switch from the "Off" setting to "Run" setting eight times in a row within a 10 second time frame. Ensure that you end on "Run." The door locks will lock and then unlock to verify that you are in "Programming Mode."

Step 3

Press any button on the key fob. The door locks will lock and then unlock to verify that the key fob programs itself. Note that you must do this within 20 seconds of entering into "Programming Mode."

Step 4

Switch the ignition to "Off" to end "Programming Mode." The locks will lock and then unlock signaling the end of "Programming Mode."

Step 5

Get out of the vehicle and test all the buttons on the Crown Victoria key fob to ensure they programmed correctly.
