How to Reset a Change Engine Oil Light on a 2002 GMC

by Alibaster Smith

The "change oil" light on your 2002 GMC comes on when the oil needs to be changed. This service indicator light should not be ignored. Engine oil is responsible for providing necessary lubrication to vital engine components. If the engine oil is not changed at the recommended intervals, you could experience premature engine wear. Piston heads in your 2002 GMC are especially susceptible to wear if the piston rings become damaged from insufficient lubrication.

Turn the ignition to the "on" position and wait for the dash lights to illuminate.

Press the gas pedal three times within five seconds.

Wait for the oil light on your dash to blink for five seconds and then shut off. The "change engine oil" light has now been reset.
