How to Reset the Oil Engine Light on a BMW X5 2003

by David Clair

The 2003 BMW X5 has a maintenance system as part of its onboard computer. The maintenance system keeps track of driving conditions to determine when the next oil change should be performed. The control panel display shows an "oil service" indicator when it has determined an oil change is needed. When a BMW service technician performs the oil change or maintenance on the X5, he resets the oil service light as part of the process. If you change the oil on the X5 yourself, you can manually reset the light.

1

Insert the key into the ignition. Do not start the engine.

2

Press and hold the odometer reset button. Turn the key to the "ACC" position. Do not go past this position.

3

Release the odometer reset button when "OILSERVICE" appears on the display.

4

Press and hold the odometer reset button until "OILSERVICE" starts to blink.

5

Press and release the odometer reset button to reset the oil light. "END SIA" appears on the display after a few seconds to confirm the reset was successful.
