How to Reset the Change Oil Light in a 2000 Chevy Silverado
by David ClairThe 2000 Chevrolet Silverado truck has an oil change reminder system connected to the onboard computer that illuminates a warning light when it is time for an oil change. If a Chevrolet dealer changes the oil in the Silverado, he or she will reset the change oil light as part of the procedure. You can manually reset the light yourself if you do your own oil changes or if you take the truck to a mechanic that does not reset it.
Step 1
Insert the key into the ignition.
Step 2
Turn the ignition switch to "ON" without starting the engine.
Step 3
Press the accelerator pedal completely to the floor three times within a 5-second span.
Step 4
Turn the ignition switch to "OFF."
Step 5
Turn the ignition switch to "ON." If the oil change light has not reset, repeat the steps.
