How to Reset the Check Engine Light on a Toyota Camry 1999
by Alibaster SmithThe check engine light on a Toyota Camry comes on when there is a problem with the vehicle's emissions control system. Because there are a variety of sensors related to the emissions system, you will need to have a full diagnostic scan run on your Camry to figure out what the problem is. Once you've solved the issue, the codes generated by the on board diagnostic computer will remain stored on the computer until you erase them. To do this, you need to know how to reset the check engine light.
Step 1
Pull down on the fuse panel cover in the driver's side foot well with your fingers.
Step 2
Locate the fuse for the electronic control unit, or ECU.
Step 3
Pull the fuse for the ECU using the fuse pullers that are mounted in the fuse panel.
Step 4
Turn the ignition key to the second position in the ignition, but don't crank the engine (it won't start anyway with the ECU fuse removed).
Step 5
Wait at least 3 minutes before putting the fuse back into the fuse panel. The check engine light will blink and then shut off. Your check engine light and computer will be reset at this point.
