How to Reset the Computer on a Mitsubishi Montero
by Alibaster SmithThe computer in your Mitsubishi Montero controls the air to fuel ratio and emissions control system. If there is something wrong with any of the various sensors on the Montero, the module, called an ECU, will generate a trouble code. You can get a free diagnostic scan at most auto parts stores. However, a more precise scan can be done at a Mitsubishi dealership. Once you've discovered the problem and fixed it, you need to know how to reset the computer on your Montero.
Step 1
Pull down the fuse panel cover of your Montero. The fuse panel is located in the driver side footwell, under the steering column.
Step 2
Locate the fuse for the electronic control unit, or ECU. Use the fuse diagram on the underside of the fuse panel cover to locate the ECU fuse.
Step 3
Pull the ECU fuse using the fuse pullers that are mounted in the fuse panel.
Step 4
Turn on the ignition, but don't try to crank the engine.
Step 5
Wait 5 minutes and then insert the fuse back into the fuse panel. The "check engine" light on the dash of your Montero will blink several times and then shut off. This will indicate that the computer has been reset.
