How to Turn Off the Check Engine Light in a Jetta
by Alibaster SmithThe "Check Engine" light comes on in your Volkswagen Jetta for a variety of reasons. Most of them have to do with the emissions control system and related sensors. The on-board diagnostic computer generates and stores an error code that then must be retrieved so you know what the problem is. Most auto parts stores offer a free service to help you retrieve and translate the error code on your Jetta. Once the underlying problem has been repaired, the "Check Engine" light on the Jetta will stay on until you turn it off.
Step 1
Open the fuse panel cover on the Jetta by pulling down on the fuse cover with your hands.
Step 2
Locate the fuse for the EMC (electronic control module), using the fuse diagram on the underside of the fuse cover.
Step 3
Pull the fuse out of the fuse box, using the fuse pullers in the fuse box.
Step 4
Wait five minutes, and replace the fuse.
Step 5
Start the Jetta and confirm that the ECM has been reset and that the "Check Engine" light has shut off.
