How to Reset the Oil Change Light on a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado
by Kenny SowardAfter just having your 2001 Chevy Silverado's oil changed, you notice that the oil change light---located on your truck's dashboard---is still lit, reading "change oil soon". This may occur whether you have your Chevy Silverado's oil changed at the dealership or have changed the oil yourself. Knowing how to reset your oil change light will save you from taking your Chevy Silverado back to the dealership.
Reset a 2001 Chevy Silverado Oil Change Light
Step 1
Insert your key into the 2001 Chevy Silverado ignition.
Step 2
Turn your key two clicks forward into the RUN position.

Verify that your dashboard lights, radio and odometer turn on. Your 2001 Chevy Silverado engine should not start.
Step 4
Push and release the accelerator pedal fully three times within five seconds while monitoring the dashboard lights.

Verify the behavior of the change oil soon light. If the change oil soon light flashes two times, the system is reset. If the change oil soon light comes on and remains lit for five seconds, the system has not reset.

Turn your key to the OFF position if the system did not reset, and attempt the procedure again until the change oil soon light flashes two times.
Step 7
Start your vehicle and ensure that the oil life indicator changes to 100 percent full.
