How to Replace Front Disc Brakes in a Nissan Sentraby Contributor
If your 2001 through 2004 Nissan Sentra is squeaking when you stop and you come to a screeching halt, you need to resolve this problem as soon as possible. Do this by replacing the front disc brakes on your Nissan Sentra. Visit your local auto parts supply store and pick up the necessary tools.
Park the vehicle on a flat and level surface. Apply the parking brake. Secure the vehicle by wedging something behind the wheels to prevent the vehicle from rolling. Loosen the lug nuts. Jack the Sentra up and support the front of the vehicle securely on jackstands.
Remove the brake fluid from the master cylinder reservoir until it is approximately 1/3 full by siphoning it out using a syringe, turkey baster or similar tool. The old fluid will not be reused so throw it away properly. Disconnect and remove the wheel and tire assembly.
Remove the bottom guide pin from the caliper and swing the caliper cylinder body up and out of the way. Using mechanic's wire, suspend the caliper cylinder body from the Altima frame. Do not disconnect the brake hose. Do not allow the caliper cylinder body to dangle from the brake hose or it will damage the brake hose. Remove the brake pad retainers and the pads.
Compress the piston of the disc brake caliper. Install the brake pads. Put anti-squeaking on the outside of the pad. Do not put it on the inside of the brake pad. Reinstall the brake pad retainers and the reconnect the caliper cylinder body. Using a torque wrench, torque the guide pin to 16-23 ft./lbs. Reconnect the wheel and tire assembly. Using a torque wrench, torque the lug nuts to 62 ft./lbs.
Reconnect the negative battery cable to the battery. Add brake fluid. Start the engine and pump the brakes 3-4 times. Test drive the Sentra at slow to moderate speeds to ensure that the maintenance was performed correctly.
- Parts needed to complete the maintenance can be purchased from your local automotive parts supply store. You will need to provide the store employee with the make, model and year of your Sentra.
