How to Replace the Battery in a Pontiac Remote Controlby Leonardo R. Grabkowski
In the automotive world, the term "remote control" generally applies to a remote starter; however, it may also refer to a keyless remote (sometimes known as a key fob). If your Pontiac vehicle is equipped with a remote starter, it is within the keyless remote device. The device uses a single battery to unlock the doors and remotely start the engine.
Insert a small knife or thin flat-head screwdriver between the remote halves, directly underneath the slot for your key ring.
Pry the remote halves apart carefully. Set them down on a table, and then remove the old battery from the remote.
Insert the new battery, with the "positive" symbol facing up. Align the remote halves and press them together to snap the remote back together.
- Bring your old battery when shopping for a new one. Most Pontiac (and GM) remotes use the same battery (CR2032), however, verify this before purchasing a replacement.
- Most electronic stores, such as Radio Shack, sell replacement batteries for keyless remotes.
Things You'll Need
- Small knife or flat-head screwdriver
- Replacement battery
- Do not touch the internal circuits in your remote. This could cause a shock.
