If you own a late-model Chevrolet Colorado chances are you use a remote control to manipulate the door locks and set the car's alarm. This keyless entry system is easy and convenient but these remote controls must be programmed to your specific Colorado before they can be used. Normally this is done by the dealer but if you've found yourself in a position where you need to reprogram your remote and can't get to the dealership, you can do it yourself. You don't need to be tech-savvy in order to do it and it should only take a moment or two to complete the process.

Step 1

Sit in the driver's seat of your Colorado and make sure all of the doors are closed and the engine is turned off.

Step 2

Insert the key into the ignition while simultaneously holding down the "Door Unlock" button. This is the first step to getting your car into "Program" mode.

Step 3

Turn the key to the "On" position in the ignition then turn it off. Repeat this step and then release the "Door Unlock" button on the remote control. The doors will now lock and unlock automatically to confirm that the car is now in "Program" mode.

Step 4

Press and hold the "Lock" and "Unlock" buttons simultaneously. Hold these two buttons down for approximately 15 seconds, at which point the doors will lock and unlock again to confirm that the remote has been programmed.

Step 5

Repeat the process if you have more than one remote, then turn the key to the "On" position in the ignition to exit the programming mode. Your car's remote control is now programmed.
