How to Program a Car Remote Starter

by Matthew Fortuna

Popular aftermarket options in cars, remote starters have become a favorite accessory for many drivers. These starters can be bought, programmed and reprogrammed for different vehicles, and can be set up with your car using a few simple steps.

Step 1

Put your key into your car's ignition and turn it to the "On" position, one click before the "Start" position.

Step 2

Press and release the small black button on your car remote, known as the valet switch. Press the button a second time and hold it.

Step 3

Press the "lock" button on your remote while holding the valet switch.

Step 4

Release both buttons and turn the key back to the "Off" position.

Press a button on your remote to test if the programming was successful.
