How to Rent a Jeep Wrangler

by Louise Balle

If you are a Jeep owner or you've driven one before, then you can probably understand why some adventurous travelers love them and specifically request Jeep rentals for certain types of excursions. But there aren't many places that rent out Jeeps. It's even harder to find a specific model, like the Jeep Wrangler. However, there are a few places where you can find these vehicles for rent. Wranglers are popular because they are 4x4 vehicles that can be taken off-road and still fit right in if you need to drive through town. They are attractive and open, and allow you to really enjoy the outdoors.

Contact Dollar Rent a Car. This seems to be one of the only rental car companies in the United States that rents Jeep Wranglers. You can get a quote online at Dollar.com, email the company at helpdesk@dollar.com or call a representative at (800) 800-5252 to find out if they have Wranglers in stock at the location where you want to pick up your vehicle.

Contact local mom-and-pop rental companies. These businesses are more likely to carry hard-to-find vehicles like the Jeep Wrangler. See Resources below for a list of rental car companies in various states across the country and internationally who are likely to rent Jeep Wranglers.

Visit states and towns that have hilly or mountainous terrains to increase your chances of finding a Jeep Wrangler to rent. You are more likely to find a Wrangler in adventurous vacation destinations (especially ones with a steeper terrain and off-road trails) like Hawaii and Denver.

Tip

  • check If you don't have much luck finding a Jeep Wrangler, post your request on Craigslist under "Cars and Trucks" in the city where you want to rent. Also, post your rental request on WranglerForum.com, a site that is dedicated to Wrangler owners and lovers. When you rent your Jeep, ask if it comes with a soft, hard or open top. If you're thinking about buying a Jeep, rent one first to get a full feel for the vehicle before you buy. Travel light when you rent a Jeep Wrangler, because there isn't much space for baggage. This is also not a great choice if you have several people in your party--most models are made for two people. However, the Jeep Wrangler Unlimited seats four people.
