The Recommended Oil for a 2005 Ford Explorer Sport Trac
by Justin CuplerIn 2001, Ford introduced an SUV-pickup truck hybrid, named the Explorer Sport Trac. This mid-sized SUV was essentially a Ford Explorer with the rear cargo area cut out. In place of the cargo area, Ford mounted a pickup truck bed. Ford equipped the 2005 Explorer Sport Trac with a 210-horsepower, 4.0-liter V-6 engine. When changing or adding engine oil, it is important to use the oil that Ford recommends for the vehicle, especially if your Explorer Sport Trac is under an extended warranty.
Oil Recommendation
Ford recommends only API-certified 5W-30 engine oil for the 2005 Ford Explorer Sport Trac. Check that the oil used meets or exceeds Ford specification No. WSS-M2C929-A before adding it to your Explorer's engine. Using the incorrect oil could cause issues with the oiling system, leading to potential engine damage. If your Explorer is under an extended warranty, using the wrong oil could also void this warranty.
Oil Capacity
The 2005 Ford Explorer Sport Trac has an engine oil capacity of 5 quarts, including the oil filter. You can verify the correct oil level via the dipstick. The oil level must be within the crosshatched area on the base of the dipstick.
