How to Program a Mazda 6 Key
by Adelaide DamoahLike most modern cars, the Mazda 6 has a remote control key for entry to the car. You may have to program the key when you first get the car if it is new. You may also have to program the key if you have replaced a battery, as this can cause the key to no longer be synchronized with the car. The remote control key or fob communicates with your car's on-board computer system to open the door. It is possible to program the key yourself without having to visit your Mazda dealer.
Step 1
Open the driver side door and sit in the car with the door open.
Step 2
Press the "lock" button on the inside of the door. Press unlock immediately afterward.
Step 3
Insert the key into the ignition. Turn the key to the "On" position, then off again. Repeat the process three times within 10 seconds.
Step 4
Close the car door and open it again. Repeat the process twice more so that you do this a total of three times. On the third time the door should be open. The doors will lock and then unlock automatically.
Step 5
Press the lock button on the remote control key twice very quickly. The doors will lock and unlock as you press the button. Get out of the car and close the door. Test the key by pressing lock and unlock again. You have now programmed the Mazda 6 key.
