How to program an Acura keyless entry remote fobby braniac
Replacing a lost keyless entry fob at the dealer can cost more than $50 dollars and requires you to take time out of your day to go to the Acura dealer. By obtaining a key fob on eBay or other sources on the internet, you can save time and lots of money.
Gather all remotes for the vehicle. You only need one remote to get into program mode but all remotes must be programmed during the same session. The car will "forget" previous remotes every time it is reprogrammed. The image is an example of an Acura keyless entry fob. The fob compatible with your vehicle may look different than this example.
Start by sitting in the car in the drivers seat with all doors/trunk tightly closed.
Turn the key to the ON position, marked by "II" on the ignition bezel so the dash lights come on. Do not crank the engine - if the engine is accidentally cranked, start over at step one.
Listen for a quiet click, and then within 5 seconds press the "Lock" button on the remote for 1 second.
Turn the key to the OFF position, marked by "I" on the ignition bezel so the dash lights go off. If you hear a quiet click in the dashboard after turning switch to "I" then the entire process must be restarted from step 1.
Repeat step 5 three more times (for a total of 4 times).
Upon the 4th turning of the key to "ON" position, press the lock button on one remote, the locks will make a cycling sound (clunk), locks will NOT lock or unlock at this point, they will just make a noise. The system is now in programming mode. Do not turn the key to the off position.
Within 5 seconds of entering programming mode and within 5 seconds of each other, press the lock button ON EACH remote you are programming for a second or so and release. Each time a remote button is pushed, the locks should cycle. Up to 3 remotes can be programmed. Remember that all remote fobs must be reprogrammed including any existing remote fobs.
Turn ignition completely off and remove the key.
Step out of car and close door. The remotes should be programmed and function properly. If you have a trunk/hatch release, the button for this feature needs to be held for a few seconds before the trunk/hatch will "pop". Test each remote fob for functionality. If any fob is not functioning properly, replace its battery. If it is still not working you will have to reprogram all remote fobs by starting at step 1.
Programming is now complete - congratulations you've done it yourself and saved some money.
- Buy the fobs on eBay they can typically be purchased for $5-$20, which is less than half what a keyless entry fob costs at your Acura dealer.
