How to Program Jeep Patriot Keys

by Ashley Hay

The Jeep Patriot is a crossover SUV that was introduced in 2007. The Patriot offers many upgrades such as an “Off-Road” package, premium sound and remote keyless entry with “Sentry Key” security. The Sentry Key includes a chip that will only work with the engine to which it is programmed. Programming additional Jeep Patriot keys takes only a few minutes. You can program up to eight keys per vehicle.

Step 1

Insert the first of the two valid keys into the Jeep Patriot’s ignition and start the engine. Leave the engine running for five to 10 seconds, then turn the engine off and remove the first key.

Step 2

Within 15 seconds of removing the first key, insert the second of the two valid keys into the ignition and start the engine. You will hear a chime after 10 seconds, then the Vehicle Security Light will begin to blink. Turn the engine off and remove the second key.

Step 3

Insert the key you would like to program into the ignition and start the engine--this must be performed within 60 seconds of removing the second valid key. After 10 seconds, you will hear a chime and the Vehicle Security Light will stop blinking. The Security Light will return for three seconds, then turn off, indicating the programming was successful. Repeat steps 1 through 3 for each additional key you would like to program.
