How to Program a Key Fob on a 2006 Chevrolet HHR
by Robert KohnkeThe Chevy HHR is a retro style sport utility vehicle. The HHR stands for "Heritage High Roof." The HHR first came out in 2005, and Chevy has churned a new model out each year since. The HHR comes with remote controlled locks which means that you can unlock or lock the doors with the touch of a button. Reprogramming the key takes less than five minutes and requires the use of a working key.
Step 1
Insert your working key into the ignition.
Step 2
Turn the engine on and then shut if off again. Remove the key from the ignition.
Step 3
Insert your new key into the ignition and turn it to the "On" position. You must do this within 30 seconds of removing the first key.
Step 4
Start your engine ten seconds after inserting the key. The engine will start and you have programmed the new key.
