How to Program Cadillac Keys

Early Cadillac models were manufactured with a Vehicle Anti-Theft-System key in an attempt to deter theft. A Cadillac with a VATS System can have one of the 15 keys. Cadillacs manufactured after 2003 come equipped with a transmitter key that can be programmed by the owner once a new key is cut.
Step 1
Locate a qualified locksmith or authorized dealer to have a new key cut.
Step 2
Place the new key into the ignition. Switch the key to the "On" setting and wait 10 minutes and 30 seconds. You have 45 seconds to switch the key to the "Off" position after this time has elapsed.
Step 3
Turn the key back to the "On" position and wait 10 minutes and thirty seconds. Quickly switch key to the "Off" position and back to the "On" position for 10 minutes and thirty seconds. Switch key to the "Off" position and back to the "On" position for the last time. Test the key by starting your car. Your newly programmed key can now be used to program a spare key.
Step 4
Place the working, programmed key into the ignition. Switch the ignition to "On" and wait five seconds. Switch key to "Off." Take out the preprogrammed key and place the newly cut key in the ignition within five seconds. Switch the key to "on" and wait five seconds. Turn the key to "Off" and back to "On." Test the key by starting your car.

- These steps will not work if you Vehicle Identification Number begins with a two, three or a letter. Your VIN must begin with a one or a four.
