How to Program GM Key Fobs
by Matthew FortunaGM cars and trucks are equipped with keyless entry capabilities. This technology gives owners the ability to remotely control their vehicle's door locks, trunks, engines and panic alarms. You can program or reprogram your keyless-entry FOB system in just minutes from your vehicle. Programming requires only your ignition key and your keyless remote itself and you will be ready to use the device immediately with your car, truck or SUV.
Step 1
Enter your GM vehicle with your keyless remote and your ignition key in hand. Close all of the car's doors behind you.
Step 2
Insert your key into the ignition and press and hold the "Unlock" tab on your driver's side door. Be prepared to hold the tab through the next step.
Step 3
Turn the key in the ignition to "On" and then back to "Off" two times in quick succession.
Step 4
Release the "Unlock" button on the driver's side door and wait for the car's locks to cycle to indicate the beginning of the programming sequence.
Step 5
Hold down the "Unlock" and "Lock" buttons on your keyless-entry remote until the doors respond by cycling again. This will indicate that the programming was successful.
Step 6
Repeat step five with any additional remotes and turn the key back to the "On" position to end the programming sequence once you have finished.
