How Do I Replace a Ford Taurus Head Light Switch?

by Allen Moore

The Ford Taurus headlight switch allows you to turn the headlights on and off at your convenience. The purpose of the switch is to complete the light circuit, which sends electrical power to the headlight bulbs. If the switch shorts out, you obviously won't have the ability to turn on your headlights. In some cases, the switch can fail and leave the headlights stuck in the on mode, which requires you to disconnect the car battery in order to turn them off. If you have basic automotive-repair skill, you can replace the Ford Taurus headlight switch quickly.

Disconnect the negative battery cable from the battery terminal using the battery wrench.

Pry the window switch out of the dashboard with the trim tool. Use caution to prevent damaging the switch bezel or surrounding plastic trim with the edge of the trim tool.

Disconnect the wiring harness from the back of the switch by hand and set the old switch aside.

Plug the wiring harness into the new switch and slide the switch into the dashboard until you hear it click into position.

Reconnect the negative battery cable to the battery terminal.
