How to Disable the Autolock on a Saturn Ion

by Leonardo R. Grabkowski

The Saturn Ion was produced until after the 2007 model year. The Ion comes with an automatic door locking feature. This feature automatically locks the car's doors when your speed reaches 5 miles per hour. If you do not like the feature, you can simply deactivate it. Deactivating the auto lock function is a built-in user option; it requires no permanent modifications to the vehicle.

Sit inside your Saturn Ion. Make sure the doors are closed.

Place the key in the ignition.

Turn it to "Run" without starting the car's engine.

Press and hold the "Lock" button on the door panel.

Hold the lock button down for approximately two seconds.

Listen for the horn to chirp twice. This lets you know that the auto lock feature has been disabled.

Tip

  • check If you decide to re-activate the auto lock feature, repeat the process. Performing the procedure while the auto locks are disabled re-activates them.
