How to Deactivate an Avital Alarm System
by John SmithMany car manufacturers use a third-party alarm manufacturer to produce their car alarm systems. These units are installed by the car manufacturer at the manufacturing plant like any other car part. Avital has been making car alarms for years, and you can purchase one of their alarms as an aftermarket option and install it yourself. Once set up, the alarm will be activated when someone unlocks or enters the vehicle the wrong way. The alarm will be set off, and you must deactivate it using your remote or car key.
Step 1
Press the unlock button on your car alarm remote. This button looks like a lock with an open hinge. The parking lights will flash, and the car horn will chirp twice. If you do not have an alarm remote, continue to Step 2.
Step 2
Insert the car key into the door and unlock the vehicle.
Step 3
Enter the car, and use the ignition key to turn the ignition to the "On" position. This is as far as the key will turn before it cranks the car engine.
Step 4
Press the "Valet" button in your vehicle. The location of this button varies depending on the car model, so consult your owner's manual for more details. After five seconds, the alarm will disengage and stop sounding.
