How to Change the Headlight on a 2005 Ford Focus
by Alibaster SmithThe headlights on your 2005 Ford Focus should be checked every six months to make sure that the headlights are functioning normally. Ideally, replacement of the headlights should be done during the day; however, this is not always possible. Replacement headlights for the Focus can be purchased from most auto parts stores. You will need to use the part number on the back of the old headlight as a reference for the replacement headlight because different manufacturers use different part numbers.
Step 1
Open the hood of your 2005 Ford Focus. Remove the rubber boot on the back of the headlight assembly.
Step 2
Squeeze the release tab on top of the power connector running to the back of the headlight ballast.
Step 3
Pull the connector off the back of the headlight ballast.
Step 4
Squeeze the tabs on the retaining clip that holds the headlight in place and pull the clip off the back of the headlight.
Step 5
Turn the headlight counterclockwise and remove it from the back of the housing assembly.
Step 6
Insert the replacement headlight into the back of the housing assembly and turn the headlight clockwise to lock it into the housing. The rest of the installation is the reverse of removal.
