S-10 Oil Capacity

by Charles Green

General Motors sold the Chevrolet S-10, a compact pickup, from 1982 to 2004. Available in two- and four-wheel drive and in different cabin and bed configurations, the truck was an alternative to the full-size pickups that then dominated the market. Knowing your Chevy S-10 oil capacity and required weight of the motor oil is essential to keep this truck on the road for many years.

2004 Truck

In its final year of production, the Chevrolet S-10 offered just one engine choice: a 4.3-liter V-6. This truck requires 4.6 quarts of motor oil; 10W-30 is recommended at temperatures above zero degrees Fahrenheit for the two-wheel-drive truck. The four-wheel-drive S-10 requires 5W-30 motor oil.

2.8-Liter V-6 Engine

In earlier years, the Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck offered a 2.8-liter V-6 engine. The 1993 Chevrolet S-10 requires 4.1 quarts of 5W-30 motor oil. Owners can choose 10W-30 motor oil at temperatures above zero degrees Fahrenheit.

1.9-Liter I-4 Engine

In its first and earlier years of production, the Chevy S-10 was powered by a base 1.9-liter, four-cylinder engine. This engine required 4.1 quarts of 10W-30 motor oil.
