How to Reset the Service Light on a Mercedes E500
by Blaze JohnsonThe Mercedes-Benz E500, first introduced in 1994, shares the same chassis platform as the E320, E300D and E420 series. The Mercedes-Benz E500 features a 5.0-liter V-8 engine and many other creature comforts that designate the E500 as a luxury class vehicle. If you decide to perform some of the routine maintenance required for your vehicle, you may wish to reset the service interval warning system. Resetting the system will disable the warnings displayed on your instrument panel until it is time for you to service your vehicle again.
Step 1
Sit in the driver side seat and ensure that all the vehicle doors are closed.
Step 2
Switch the ignition to the "On" position, but do not turn the vehicle on.
Step 3
Press the "0" button located on the left-hand side of your dashboard twice, within four seconds of switching the ignition to the "On" position.
Step 4
Turn the ignition to the "Off" position, press and hold the "0" button while turning the ignition back to the "On" position.
Step 5
Continue holding the "0" for 10 seconds, or until the dash display on your vehicle reads “Service In."
Step 6
Turn the ignition off and restart the vehicle to verify that the service interval message is cleared from the system.
