How to Reset the Service Light on My BMW 325I
by Donna TinusWhen your BMW 325i "Service Engine Soon" light appears, it's time for routine service such as an oil change. The car's computer system integrates the amount of miles that have been driven with other variables to indicate when your car should be serviced. It's important that this light be reset, so it will illuminate properly the next time you need engine service. If you have the service performed at the shop, the mechanic will reset the light, but if you do the work yourself, you need to reset it.
Step 1
Sit in the car, close the door and buckle the seat belt.
Step 2
Press the left dash button, and hold it. This is the button that resets the car's odometer.
Step 3
Put the key in the ignition, and turn it one position. The dashboard lights should come on. Do not start the car.
Step 4
Wait five seconds and release the button on the dashboard when you see the display "Sia".
Step 5
Press the button and hold it again for five seconds.
Step 6
Release the button when you see "Reset?" flash on the dashboard. Push it once more, but do not hold. Your service light is now reset.
