How to Remove a 1984 Corvette Targa Top
by Keith Perry
The 1984 Chevrolet Corvette was a completely redesigned model. The body, chassis, transmission, brakes and interior were all new. One of the major design features was a removable roof panel. The roof panel was secured in each corner with a Torx bolt, and Chevrolet supplied a special tool for removal. The Targa top provided the security of a hard top when installed and the open-air experience of a comfortable when removed.
Step 1
Park the Corvette on a level surface.
Step 2
Lower the driver and passenger windows.
Step 3
Open the driver and passenger doors.
Step 4
Open the rear glass hatch using the release located in the center console between the seats.
Step 5
Loosen the four bolts securing the removable Targa top to the body, using the Chevrolet roof removal tool.
Step 6
Grasp the roof panel with a hand on the front and back of it. Tilt the front edge of the roof up and lift the roof panel from the car.
Store the Targa top in the rear cargo hatch of the 1984 Corvette. Lock the roof panel into place and close the glass hatch. Close the driver and passenger doors.
