How to Program a Keyless Entry Remote for a 4-Runner
by Matthew FortunaAmong the various cars manufactured by Toyota, the 4-Runner features a number of the top technologies and capabilities of the brand. The sports utility vehicle offers standard and aftermarket keyless entry systems that allow you to control your doors, locks, trunk, panic alarm and engine from as far as a couple hundred feet away. You can program and reprogram your remote using only the remote itself and your ignition key in just minutes.
Step 1
Enter your 4-Runner with your driver's door open and unlocked and your other doors closed. Have your keyless remote and ignition key in hand.
Step 2
Insert your key into the ignition and remove it from the ignition once.
Step 3
Cycle the switch on the driver's door from lock to unlock five times in steady succession and then close and open the driver's door.
Step 4
Cycle the lock switch again five times, insert your key into the ignition, turn the key to "ON" then back "Off." Remove the key once you switch it back to "Off." Wait for the locks to cycle to indicate the programming sequence has started.
Step 5
Press and hold the lock and unlock buttons on your remote for one second, release the buttons and press and hold the lock button for two seconds. The door locks will cycle again to indicate that the remote is programmed.
Step 6
Close the driver's door to end the programming sequence.
