How to Program a C5 Corvette Key FOB

by Justin Cupler

The C5 Corvette was produced from 1997 through 2004. Through all of these years, Chevrolet added the convenience of keyless entry via a remote. The key remotes are not interchangeable through all of the years, however. The key fobs are broken down into two types: 1997 through 2000, and 2001 through 2004. While they were not the same remotes, they did have the exact same reprogramming procedure. You must reprogram the key fob if you need to either replace a broken remote or if the battery was replaced.

Step 1

Insert the key into the ignition and turn it to the “Run” position. Turn off power to the radio.

Step 2

Press the “Reset” button on the driver information center to clear any warning lights. Press the “Options” button until a blank message appears on the DIC screen.

Step 3

Press and hold “Reset” on the 3 seconds. Press the "Options" button until "Fob Training" is displayed on the DIC screen.

Step 4

Push the “Reset” button. This will bring up the message “HOLD LK + UNLK 1ST FOB” on the DIC screen.

Step 5

Hold down “Lock” and “Unlock” on the remote at the same time for 13 seconds.

Step 6

Watch the DIC, as it will read “Fob Learned” when the programming is accepted for that remote. Repeat "Step 8" to program a second Fob, if desired.
