How Many Quarts of Oil Does a 2012 Chevrolet Malibu LS Take?
by Kyle McBrideChevrolet's 2012 Malibu LS came equipped with a 2.4-liter, inline four-cylinder engine bolted to a six-speed automatic transmission. When you change the oil and filter, the 2.4-liter engine takes five quarts of oil to refill the system. Chevrolet recommends ACDelco dexos1 Synthetic Blend engine oil along with GM part No. 12605566 or ACDelco part No. PF457G for the filter.
Engine OIl Specs
Use oil that bears the dexos1 logo indicating that it meets the dexos1 specifications. You should use SAE 5W-30 oil for most environments. If your temperature gets down to -20 degrees F, use SAE 0W-30 oil for better starting and performance in the extreme cold. Chevy does not recommend using any other viscosity grades in your Malibu. Don't forget to reset the oil life monitor after doing your oil change.
