Your Honda car is equipped with an automated monitoring system to remind you when it is time to change the engine oil. If you choose to change the oil yourself or take it to a small mechanic shop, chances are you will need to reset the monitoring system so that it knows that there is new oil in the engine. You do not need a dealership service department to reset the monitoring system. You can adjust your engine oil life indicators at home in minutes so that you always know when the oil in your Honda car needs to be changed.

Locate trip odometer reset button, normally used to toggle between total miles traveled and trip calculators. The button -- usually a small, black peg with notches on the side -- is just below or to the side of the odometer display.
Press and hold the button with your left hand.
Turn on the ignition with your right hand, continuing to press down on the odometer reset button.
Hold down the reset button for 10 seconds. The oil indicator light will turn off. Turn off the ignition.
LX, EX, EX-L and DX Models
Insert the key into the ignition and turn it to the “ON” position. Push the “Select/Reset” button until you access the oil life indicator.
Hold the “Select/Reset” button down until you see the indicator and maintenance codes blink. It should happen within about 10 seconds. Release the button.
Immediately press the “Select/Reset” button again and the oil indicator will reset to 100. Release the button and remove the ignition key.
Insert the key into the ignition and turn it to the “ON” position. Push the “SEL/RESET” button on your steering wheel until the oil life indicator appears.
Press and hold the “SEL/RESET” button until you see the “CUSTOM SETUP” display. Release the button when “CUSTOM SETUP” appears.
Press and release the “SEL/RESET” button one more time to reset the indicator. The oil life display should now read “100” and any maintenance codes are no longer displayed.
Turn the ignition switch to the On (II) position. The On (II) position is reached by rotating the ignition switch until two clicks are heard.
Press the Select/Reset button, located on the steering wheel, and scroll through the options until the Engine Oil Life Display is displayed.
Press the Select/Reset button while in the On (II) position. This button is located on the steering wheel and must be pressed for more than 10 seconds, as anything less than 10 seconds will not register. The remaining engine oil life Reset mode will be shown on the multi-information display, as well as a Cancel option.
Select the Reset mode by pressing the Info button on the steering wheel, and then press the Select/Reset button to reset the Engine Oil Life Display. Any maintenance item codes and lights displayed will disappear, and the Engine Oil Life will reset to 100%.
Put the key in the ignition and turn the key to the "On" position. Don't start the engine.
Look for the "Select/Reset" button above the steering column on the instrument panel. Push and release the button several times until the oil indicator light appears on the display. Hold the button in for at least 10 seconds. Release the button once the oil indicator light starts to blink.
Press the "Select/Reset" button. Hold the button for 10 seconds or until the oil indicator resets itself to 100.
Items you will need
Turn off the Accord's engine and make sure the ignition switch is in the "Off" position.
Press the "Select/Reset" knob and hold it. The knob is in the lower-right corner of the instrument cluster.
Turn the ignition switch to the "On" position, without starting the car.
Continue to hold the knob pushed in for approximately 10 seconds. The "Maintenance Required" light will turn off. Release the knob and turn the ignition off. The system is now reset.
Sit in the driver seat of your car and insert the key into the ignition. Turn the ignition to the “ON” position.
Push the “Select/Reset” knob and continue pushing it until the display screen shows the engine oil life. Push and hold the “Select/Reset” knob and count to ten.
Watch for the oil life display to blink. Continue to hold the reset button for another five seconds. Any displayed maintenance codes will disappear and the engine oil life will reset to 100.
